Unfortunate news
Posted by Paul Mabray on February 6th, 2007We have been a long time admirer of the winery website report and the blog. It gave away great information how to understand your website, controversial issues, and how to market on the web. Though we disagreed with some items (like wineries blogging), we were aligned on 99.5% of his statements and observations. Unfortunately I read the bad news on one of his recent blog entries: http://blog.winerywebsitereport.com/2007/02/direct_sales_an.html. In essence, Mike Duffy has come to experience a great deficiency in the wine industry - our continued talk of consumer direct and the irony of our inability to devote the time or the resources to make online efforts more effective. The web is an tool and understanding it is the key to succeeding with it. It is with great sadness that so many wineries have not seen the value of his great report. We always are a believer of direct and the internet and Mike made great contributions to our industry through sharing his knowledge and expertise. I recommend that anyone who has a winery reads his site and learns from his guidance. We have.

Thanks for the good words, Paul. I haven’t given up, but clearly the Report was not addressing a “point of pain” for most wineries. I’ll be continuing to blog about wineries and their Web sites.
