What’s for lunch today?

Posted by admin on June 15th, 2007

In any kind of work environment one of the most important events of the day that regularly occurs everyday is, of course, lunch time. After all, how could you create great code, or make sales, or design a fantastic web page on an empty stomach? Historically at IBG, at least on the Tech Department’s side, it usually takes about 30 minutes between when someone says “let’s go to lunch,” and when people start to think of where to go. Then it takes another 30 minutes before someone actually makes a decision. Finally, another 15-20 minutes passes before people actually stand up and head towards the parking lot.

Now that last part is more or less inevitable. Sometimes phone calls come in at the nick of time, or random people come in with random questions, or maybe there’s an earthquake, or who knows what. The first and second part, though, can be helped, at least to a certain extent. To help with the decision-making process, I have made The IBG Lunch Tour Map.

The IBG Lunch Tour Map

Thanks to Google, we now have a convenient list of where to go to lunch, complete with an address, phone number, directions, and ratings. Thanks to this simple and fun list, we have cut our lunch-decision-making process from about 1.5 hours to just 30 minutes or less!

This list is by no means complete, so I invite everyone to improve it by telling us about any of your favorite lunch spots! Thank you!

I would say the elite tech group at IBG should make a software catered to picking the correct lunch spot each and every day. Maybe you can hook in an API call to your Google Map, right Kevin?

    What, no In-n-Out???

Wow, it seems like the programmers eat at different spots than the rest of the company. I’ll start adding some of the other side of the house’s favorites.

Oh my dear friends at IBG, how could Parry’s (the big yellow barn-like building across 29 from Safeway in AmCan) not be on the list? Their pizza is some of the best in the Bay Area. New York style, thin crispy-chewy crust, spicy sauce and whole milk mozzerella. A slice is as big as your head and under $3.

I’m glad you made this public. Lunch angst is a killer - better to be upfront about it…

Parry’s is it? I’ll add that to the list and we’ll check it out. Thanks!
