What many people don’t know is that there are plenty of open source design software programs out there available to download for free. The following are some of the best free software you can find on the web:

InkScape: an open source vector graphic program that rivals Illustrator available in Mac, Linux and Windows

Nvu: an easy to use open source web authoring system similar to FontPage and Dreamweaver available in Mac, Linux and Windows

    Thanks for this list of OS apps for designers. I just installed Windows on my Macbook and was wondering what I was going to do for my graphics app. All I knew was that I didn’t want to have to buy another CS3 license just for my Windows testing drive. Thanks so much!
