Don’t delete old vintage notes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Paul Mabray on January 28th, 2008

If you have a wine store and you have your tasting notes up - DO NOT DELETE THE PRODUCT ONCE YOU SELL OUT.  In fact, put old vintages back up on your site and especially put up vintages that you have library wines for sale.  Don’t forget that many consumers and trade accounts seek out information about wines they have purchased to help tell the story.  And since most products can exist in and out of the market from 3 to 12 years, you want people to get the information from you.  I have heard complaints many times (even from retailers such as Gary V. at Winelibrary.com) about seeking the tasting notes, going to the winery’s site, and not finding them.  Also, it helps your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to have your old vintages searchable.  I can not emphasize enough the value of the content that you generate to tell people your story.

Good ways to present them are to make categories of past vintages on your store page so that anyone can access them.  Continue to update the past vintages if you get great accolades as well.

One last time, I can’t stress enough the power and value of this content.  Trust me, your customers will thank you and your increase in exposure will pay off.
